Rice

The open house for Rice University is in its second day. Students and faculty have answered our questions and attempted to illuminate for us the nature of their program. They’ve emphasized that having a small group of students from diverse backgrounds has a positive effect on their work – that the fewness is a benefit, not a hindrance.

Problem is, I was pretty impressed by UCLA’s program & open house, and arrived in Dallas not with my decision made, but with the feeling that Rice would have to put on a dazzling display to convince me. Dazzle they did not, instead choosing to present themselves as a small, quiet school, with something unique to offer. Other than its size, however, the uniqueness was hard to detect.
