Thievery Corporation, Ludacris, MIA, LCD Soundsystem: all evening, all free. With a party platter of Chick-Fil-A (and an 8-ounce tub of Polynesian!), we didn't so much mind the traffic. And the shows were incredible. Ludacris was ridiculous. And ludicrous. He played all the jams. All of them. MIA, on the other hand, started out strong with some of her older material, but quickly shifted into the new album, which enters the territory of the bizarre, and was far less interesting musically. We had a guy pass out on our blanket, and another guy tell us stories about ice cream from Virginia and bars in Santa Barbara, and a trucker named Zirky or something equally bizarre, whose name he had tattooed on his bicep. Weird encounters aside, though, it was a pretty wonderful evening.
