Five Guys Burgers

I'd been told that Five Guys put together a burger that rivals the offerings from In-N-Out, so while in the DC area, it seemed like a good idea to do a taste test. This tasting, however, became pretty contentious, as french fries can be measured according to a variety of categories. McDonald's, with their flavor enhancements, bring back the nostalgia of youth. In-N-Out can be hit or miss with theirs (sometimes too crispy, sometimes undercooked, usually just right - but then some claim they taste like cardboard). And let's not even start with ridged & waffle fries. So in the french fry category, Five Guys put on a strong showing. These were large slices of potato, well cooked, evenly salted, slightly crispy, soft on the inside, and in no short supply. The burger, on the other hand, left much to be desired. Fans of Five Guys appreciate the cornucopia of sauces available with which to dress their burgers; I, however, tend to eschew sauce in favor of pure beef flavor, where In-N-Out's burgers blow these out of the water. So, for Fries, Five Guys 1, In-N-Out 0, but for burgers, In-N-Out 1, Five Guys 0.
